Did you know up until 1940, women were arrested for wearing pants in public? And that it wasn’t until 1972 that girls were guaranteed the right to wear pants to school? Female newscasters, flight attendants, and even congresswomen have had to fight to wear pants.
Ann Taylor has been inspired by the incredible outpouring of women marching in solidarity and demanding equality. They believe the right pants are powerful, and at Ann Taylor, we design our pants to make women feel her absolute, most powerful best.
As we approach National Women’s History Month, Ann Taylor will launch a video campaign that pays tribute to the powerful women in the workplace and the women who fought for their right to wear pants. The video follows the relationship between women and pants through history, from 1940 when pants were illegal for women, to present day where we can wear them whenever, wherever. A great pair of pants is a wardrobe staple for us all, but they stand for so much more than that.
International Women’s Day is March 8th and I am giving support for Ann Taylor’s HER LEAD initiative, a fellowship to provide leadership training to young women, empowering them to become the next generation of global trailblazers. Apply for this phenomenal program HERE!

About Ann Taylor
Ann Taylor began in 1954 with a dress and a dream. When Richard Liebeskind opened his first shop in New Haven, CT, he named it “Ann Taylor” after the best-selling dress style in his father’s own store. That dress represented his vision of the modern, stylish American woman. With that vision, Ann Taylor has grown from a regional chain to an iconic brand with 242 full-price and 122 outlet stores across North America.
As the American woman has evolved, so have we, staying one step ahead to bring her a wardrobe of possibilities. She lives a rich and varied life, and we strive to bring her thoughtful style options for big days and everydays. With a sophisticated, feminine approach to modern essentials, we promise to give her the inspiration and confidence she needs to do what she loves. Shop Ann Taylor HERE!
